This rescued Prairie Dog enjoys an afternoon snack while looking all dapper. Prairie dogs live in large social groups, called Prairie Dog towns. They become acclimated to humans quickly and will run up and eat food you put on the ground. Although they are pretty cute, you do not want a Prairie Dog town close to your home or any other buildings. The dig a massive complex of subterranean tunnels and if they honeycomb the areas under a building it can cause structural issues. You also don’t want them around livestock as the collapsing tunnels and holes can cause your livestock to break a leg. A common method to get rid of them is with water, flooding their tunnels with fire hoses and making them re locate. They have a large variety of sounds they make and it is obvious to an onlooker they communicate with each other quite well.
