These are probably the thinnest wood shavings you have ever seen, even a human hair is thicker than this. The art of the Japanese hand plane, or kanna, taken to its highest form. The craftsman shaves off layers just 8 microns thin, and then 6 microns. (A micron is one millionth of a meter, and a typical human hair measure about 50 microns across.)
