Astronauts landed on the moon for the first time 50 years ago, and they left a bunch of stuff up there, including the obvious. Scientists want to know: Is there anything alive in there? Human waste is 50 percent bacteria, and we don’t know if any of that bacteria can survive in the moon’s inhospitable environment. But if we go back to check it out, that waste could answer some big scientific questions, including how life started in the broader universe.
